Why the surgical steel matters here

A cross necklace is not a piece people take off. It gets slept in, showered in, worn through summers and through grief, and most gold-plated crosses are not built for that — the plating wears through at the bail first, then the chain starts marking skin.

This one is 316 surgical stainless steel underneath the gold, the same grade used for body jewellery and surgical implants. The cross and the chain arrive as separate pieces and are joined by hand in our New York studio. How to Wear It

The paperclip chain gives it enough presence to be worn alone on an open collar, which is where it looks best — the flat links catch light along their length rather than in points, so it reads as one continuous line down to the cross.

Layered, keep it as the shortest piece so the cross sits clear. It works particularly well against pearls: sit it above a Giorgia Pearl Necklace for hard-and-soft contrast, or run it with the longer Emili Pearl Necklace for two very different textures on one neckline.
